Nature & Art

A Natural Sanctuary

Walking through the olive groves, the soul of the Villa Deep Blue reveals itself. The textured forms of the unique olive tree at the entrance inspired us to create a harmonious connection between nature and architecture. The house is surrounded by olive groves and natural stone, while ancient trees, rooted in centuries of Greek history, lend a quiet grandeur to the space. Since antiquity, the olive tree has symbolized peace, wisdom, and resilience, a presence here both timeless and alive.

The rhythm of the sea, the light of the Messinian sky, the imposing rocks, and the heritage of the land compose an atmosphere where past and present converge. Nature here is living, breathing, and enduring, a seamless introduction to the timeless spirit of the villa.

The Art Collection

— B by Stoyan Donev

In the living room, Donev’s work presents an old book inscribed with the Greek alphabet, a symbol of heritage, knowledge, and the unfolding of history. The two letters, Alpha and Beta, hint at beginnings and continuity, evoking the delicate progression from origin to evolution. The canvas, in ash-gray tones, features carved and painted figures, shapes, and symbols inspired by Byzantine iconography, sometimes vividly illuminated, sometimes quietly fading, as poetry dictates.
The painting stands as a temple full of questions about the cycle of life, radiating hope and optimism for the truths humanity has discovered, inviting reflection on the enduring narrative of Greece, where every letter marks a step in a cultural and intellectual journey.

Studies of the Human Figure by Stoyan Donev

A series of seven early prints by Donev, created during his tenure at the Fine Arts Academy in Sofia, are displayed along the hallway and in the library. Three works line the stone hallway, while four continue inside the library, all centered on the study of the human figure. Drawing on anatomy, perspective, and movement, the prints, often in charcoal, balance academic study with artistic expression, showcasing the power of art to both teach and inspire.

Ilias Christopoulos

Christopoulos’ ceramic creations are a study of the human form, where each piece reflects the essence of the spine, the foundation of support, balance, and harmony. Through abstraction, subtle textures, and a thoughtful interplay of forms, the works unite individual elements into cohesive compositions, capturing the human body’s strength and elegance. These creations transform the villa’s spaces into a dialogue between material, form, and imagination, revealing the clay’s potential to express life, movement, and connection.

Deep Blue Villas feels truly fortunate and delighted to host these exceptional collections. Each work represents a journey of exploration, creativity, and inspiration, and we are grateful to share them within our space, allowing visitors to experience the depth, beauty,

and meaning embedded in every piece.
